The State Choir Vilnius began its professional work in 1970. An exclusive feature of the choir is the synthesis of creativity and professionalism, an implementation of non-traditional events and projects, and innovative artistic solutions.
In 2010 choir Vilnius was granted the status of a Concert Institution, and its founder was the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania. In 2010 the position of Chairman was entrusted to the singer and educator Vladas Bagdonas, who fosters the choral music genre. In In the2020, on the occasion of the Day of Restoration of the State, the President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda awarded Vladas Bagdonas the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit for Lithuania. Since 2015 the position of an Artistic Director and Chief conductor was taken over by Artūras Dambrauskas, famous Lithuanian choral music enthusiast, choir conductor, pedagogue and Lithuanian Song Festival (Dainų šventė) Art Director as well as conductor.
The Choir's activities are recognized at the international level as well - the ensemble is invited to give concerts at European choral music festivals, joint international projects, serves Lithuanian culture at representative events of the President of the Republic of Lithuania, the Seimas, the Government and the Ministry of Culture.
In the 2020, State Choir Vilnius has celebrated its 50th anniversary. During fifty years of creative activity, State Choir Vilnius has organized more than 3,000 concerts, visited all regions of Lithuania, toured Latvia, Estonia, Spain, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Russia, Sweden, Belarus, Poland, Georgia and other countries. It has released 15 CD’s, more than 300 recordings of works are stored in the archives of the Lithuanian National Radio and Television.
The Choir closely cooperates with the Lithuanian National Philharmonic, Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, Lithuanian Armed Forces Orchestra, participates in Vilnius City Opera opera productions, initiates and produces operas, and large-scale choral works. It has been participating in festivals in Lithuania and abroad for many years, and is invited to joint international projects in Austria, Sweden and Germany. The choir collaborates with art associations and conductors from abroad -Modestas Pitrėnas (Lithuania), Juozas Domarkas (Lithuania), Māris Sirmais (Latvia), Vinzenz Weissenburger (Germany), Arkady Feldman (Russia), Ko Matsushita (Japan), a.o.
