Arte dei Suonatori, founded over 30 years ago by Ewa and Aureliusz Goliński, consists of musicians who pioneered the practice of performing early music on period instruments in Poland, establishing the orchestra as one of the leading Polish ensembles of this kind on the European music scene. Driven by years of shared and individual experience, the musicians focus their artistic quest on constantly exploring the essence of the musical language of historical composers. Combining this deep exploration with the use of period instruments has allowed them to forge a style that is simultaneously historical, modern, and thoroughly individual. This distinctive approach fosters rich collaborations with performers who share a similar vision for creating musical narratives, and it encourages the formation of various chamber ensembles from within the orchestra's own ranks.
Arte dei Suonatori boasts a vast repertoire comprising around 700 compositions, spanning works from the emergence of the Baroque era through to the early Romantic period, as well as contemporary pieces written specifically for the ensemble. Arte dei Suonatori has recorded and released 20 albums through renowned record labels – including BIS Records, Alpha, Channel Classics, and Pentatone – which have been recognized by international music critics with numerous prestigious accolades. Among these awards are the Gramophone Award (“Recording of the Year: Concerto” for Vivaldi’s La Stravaganza Violin Concertos in 2003), the Diapason d’Or for Johann Gottfried Müthel’s Harpsichord Concertos, and multiple honours including the Diapason 5, the Choc du Monde de la Musique, Luister 10, 10 de Répertoire, Classics Today, Classic CD, and “CD des Monats” in TOCCATA-Alte Musik aktuell. The ensemble has also repeatedly earned Monthly Choice and Editor’s Choice distinctions in BBC Music Magazine, alongside Classic FM Magazine awards, the 2009 Prelude Classical Music Award for Best Orchestral CD for Handel’s 12 Concerti grossi, Op. 6, and the Télérama ffff rating.
Since its inception, the orchestra has collaborated extensively with many of the leading figures on the international early music scene, touring widely across Poland, Europe, North America, and Asia. Furthermore, the ensemble has produced numerous recordings for major radio stations, including the BBC, Danmarks Radio (DR), SWR, and Polish Radio Programme 2, as well as television recordings for the French channel Mezzo, TVP3, TVP Kultura, and TVP1.
