Damian Aleksander is an accomplished theatre, television, and voice-over actor, director, and university lecturer. He graduated with honours from the Department of Singing and Acting at the Academy of Music in Poznań, and is also a graduate of the D. Baduszkowa State Vocal and Acting School at the Musical Theatre in Gdynia, as well as the Faculty of Education at the Higher School of Humanities in Pułtusk.
After becoming a finalist at the 19th Actors’ Song Festival in Wrocław in 1998, he made his professional stage debut in 2000 at the ROMA Musical Theatre in Warsaw. There, he starred in leading roles in a string of hit musicals, including Miss Saigon, Grease, The Five Moe Brothers, Cats, Les Misérables, and The Phantom of the Opera, earning a triple Platinum Disc for his celebrated portrayal of Erik. Since 2012, he has collaborated closely with the Podlachian Opera and Philharmonic, starring as Janusz Korczak in the institution’s premiere production of the musical Korczak by C. Williams, and appearing in their productions of The Phantom of the Opera, Fiddler on the Roof, and Doctor Zhivago. Between 2016 and 2018, he expanded his work behind the scenes, directing and performing in three major productions: the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic's New Year’s Eve Galas, and the Christmas concert of carols and pastoral songs God Is Born at St Michael the Archangel’s Cathedral in Łomża, which he also directed for television. He is the initiator and producer of the musical show Tribute to Musical LIVE (recorded on CD). In the Musical Theatre in Poznań he played main roles in musicals Jekyll & Hyde, Nine and the Addams Family.
As a soloist, he has performed in nearly 100 concerts accompanied by various Polish philharmonic orchestras under the baton of S. Chrzanowski, Director of the Zabrze Philharmonic. Beyond the stage, his television and film credits include roles in popular Polish TV series such as Zostać Miss, Kryminalni, Hotel 52, Klan, and Barwy szczęścia, as well as an appearance in M. Bilski’s feature film Toilet out of Order. He also produced the Polish adaptation of the popular science series Test Case in collaboration with the Discovery Channel.
Outside of his artistic endeavours, he is a dedicated advocate of the American Aggression Replacement Training (ART) method for working with troubled youth, and has studied psychotherapy based on A. Mindell’s therapeutic method. He has also served as a columnist for the magazines Live and Travel and Łódź U Fly?, and is the author of Lapidaria podRóżne, a collection of aphorisms and photographs documenting his travels through India and Nepal. Additionally, he co-hosted the musical-themed radio programme Z musicalem pod rękę on RMF Classic alongside M. Miśka-Jackowska for two seasons.
